The Canmore Preschool Society

Canmore Preschool is the longest-running preschool in Canmore. We have been providing quality education to 3- and 4-year-olds for almost 40 years. Canmore Preschool has a Parent Board that makes decisions on activities, schedules, fund raising, finances, programming etc. Parental involvement is a vital component of our program, through monthly "Parent of the Day" activities to donating 4 hours a year to assist in fund raising. Canmore Preschool does not receive funding from any source and is a non profit society.

Community is also an important component of our program. We encourage community visitors (veterinarians, nurses, RCMP, dental hygienists, the Bioshere Institute,dog sled visits,fire fighters, grand parents etc.) to come in to the classrooms and we go out to the library and Rec centre for movement and yoga classes on the school bus. Canmore Preschool offers the "Seeds of Empathy" program to our 4 year olds, supporting monthly mom and baby visits with literacy circles to better understand our feelings and to promote empathy. Our teachers have degrees in education and are proactive in learning about new ideas and philosophies. They have recently attended workshops on "Handwriting Without Tears" and are incorporating these techniques in the classroom. We are lucky to have a wonderful music teacher for both the 3 and 4 year old classes and the children are encouraged to exibit their art work at our annual art show.

At present we offer classes Mon/Wed/Fri for 4 year olds, morning & afternoon and Tues/Thurs for 3 year olds, morning and afternoon. Class size is kept to a maximum of 15 children for 4 year olds and 12 for 3 year olds.

2012-2013 School Year:

3 Year old classes - Tuesday and Thursday

Mornings 9:30-11:30am

Afternoons 12:30-2:30pm

4 year old classes - Mon/Wed/Fri (3 days a week)

Mornings 8:45-11:45am *new times- 3 hour classes

4 year old classes - Monday to Thursday (4 days a week)

Afternoons 12:15 - 3:15pm * new times - 3 hour classes and 1 extra day

This class will have an assistant for 3 days a week to ease the volunteer component of our program for working parents.

Our Registration and Annual general Meeting will be held on April 25, 2012 at 7:00pm. The AGM and registration will be held at St. Michael's Anglican Church Hall 709-7 St. Please call the Preschool for further information.
