SEEDS OF EMPATHY
This year, we are proud to be delivering the innovative Seeds of Empathy program in partnership with the Alberta government. Seeds of Empathy is a program designed to foster social and emotional competence and early literacy skills and attitudes in children 3–5 years of age. It supplements the regular classroom curriculum.
Our two teachers have received special training to deliver the Seeds of Empathy early literacy program and a social and emotional competence program based on experiential learning.
Another very special teacher is integral to the program, and that is a baby, who will be between 2 and 4 months at the beginning of the program in October. Through regular classroom visits from the baby and his or her parents, the children will observe the baby's moods, abilities and activities, and discuss them.
The premise of the program is that by forging a close and watchful relationship with a baby, young children will develop kinder and more empathetic attitudes towards others.
As part of the provincial pilot program, we are the only preschool in Canmore to offer Seeds of Empathy.
